There’s nothing better than a comedy to lift your spirits up with baskets full of laughter. I like the idea of comedies when there’s a complete misunderstanding, trickery or when things go wrong. For example in one of the episodes of My Wife and Kids when a girl called Claire tells her dad that there will be photograph day in school. So she asks her dad for a massive photograph of her to put on the wall. Her dad said no. On the day of the school photograph when she woke up, her right cheek was swollen-much bigger than the other. As persuaded by her parents she reluctantly went to school. When Claire arrived home she said to her dad thanks for only buying a small picture of me otherwise it would have been a total disaster seeing myself with†¦show more content†¦This trickery is later taken too far, causing Malvolio detrimental distress. Trickery is also displayed in the duel between Sir Andrew and Cesario. Sir Toby’s delight in practical jokes is once aga in illustrated as he plans good sport between Sir Andrew and Cesario, but of course always the assumption that no harm will be done and his arrangements will â€Å"so fright them both that they will kill one another by the look, like cockatrices†. Sir Toby was right. When Sir Andrew and Cesario come face to face they are so frightened that it takes some time for the duel to kick in .The duel is one of the high points of the comedy. Equally absurd is the fact that the pretended duel is the fact that the pretended duel is fought over Olivia who Cesario has rejected her love and Sir Andrew thinks he has a chance with Olivia that he enters a duel on her behalf.Before the duel took place Cesario is worried â€Å"Pray God defend me! A Day with My Roommate Essay Studying abroad was one of the biggest I’ve ever made. I didn’t know anyone when I arrived in United States and I was just really a freshman like other students who came to Edmonds community college in last spring. Although I was incredibly nervous trying to get to know people and to make friends, I felt excited about moving into the dormitory and having roommates. As I arrived into my dorm, suddenly I could feel all the butterflies in my stomach and my hands trembled really hard. I had a flashback of my sister’s saying â€Å"What if you don’t get along with her? What if she’s a psycho? What if she doesn’t want to be friends with you? † All of those negative thoughts that my sister said about having roommates instantly went around my head. Since one of the Resident Assistants suggested me to enter my bedroom to check whether my room is available for me to use, and I opened the dorm by slowly knocking the door to make sure if there’s anyone inside. When I opened the room I found a girl sleeping on the other bed and my first thought was â€Å"oh great now I’m going to interrupt my future roommate’s beauty sleeptadaaaa! † the RA looked surprised since it was spring break since she probably expected that all of the students had gone somewhere for vacations rather than sleeping in their rooms all day. Slowly I grabbed two of my suitcases into the bedroom because I didn’t want to annoy her by waking her up. Well it turned out that my effort of â€Å"not being an annoying person† actually worked fine for me and I felt a little bit relieved somehow. Since I finished with moving my stuff I went to see the living room of the room and I felt more positive because I imagined myself being independent for the first time in my life. After a few hours I felt bored from sitting and playing my phone in the living room, so I went back to my room to check if my roommate woke up from her sleep. I found her still sleeping peacefully with the same position the last time I went to the bedroom, then I went to my bed to chill and also wait for her to wake up since I really wanted to greet her. An hour late my phone’s battery had gone very low so I needed to charge my phone, then I saw her checking her phone. Title is from Robert Burns' poem "To a Mouse" which has to do with planning and the powers beyond over which man has no control _ "The best laid schemes o'mice an' men *gang aft a-gley" (*go awry) and it indicates, or suggests, that plans of Lennie and George will also go astray due to forces beyond their control. Some economists of the early nineteen hundreds theorized that the industrialized age builds a permanent underclass and regardless of hopes and dreams there is no escape because of powers beyond their control. The people doomed to manual day and piece work labor will never be able to escape from their dreary day-to-day existence. Steinbeck focuses on the underdog, the dispossessed, society's misfits and outcasts. What to do with them? Dreams are a major theme in the novel, dreams that can never materialize. Steinbeck suggests that society itself encourages dreams, such as Curley's wife and her dream of becoming a Hollywood star, which can never come to fruition. Characters in Of Mice and Men Lennie Small Imaged as pet/animal, child, white race, victim of nature and society, just pure dumb luck he ended up mentally ill, not his fault, he does not know and cannot learn. He sees Lennie as a pet, a friend, a responsibility, and a helpless person. George is victim of a failed economic system that does not provide for its castoffs. Aunt Clara Lennie's aunt who cared for him but has died. George now looks after Lennie. But, why? That's the big question. Pose this to the class. Candy The "swamper" (one who cleans, mops and sweeps up the bunk house) who had his right hand mauled in a piece of farm equipment (ironically a cultivator which is used to produce nourishment but it robs him of the very part of his body that he must have in order to nourish himself) and he is now of almost of no use to the system. His days are numbered and he'll soon be "on the county." The right hand is a symbol of the workingman which Candy no longer is. Thus, he is fast becoming worthless and will soon be dispossessed like his dog. Candy has no chance, or hope, of a future except if he throws his small amount of money in with the others. Irony is that they have no hope without him. Lennie acts as the glue to hold this dream together. Candy's dog A foreshadowing of what will become of Lennie, Candy, Crooks, and all the characters sooner or later. The dog used to be one of the best sheep herder dogs but now is used up, spent, no longer of any economic value. No one but Candy cares what the dog used to be able to do. Now he just "stinks" and can barely get around. This is an excellent opportunity to introduce to the learners the term "foreshadowing." Slim An American cowboy who now works on a barley farm driving mules due to the closing, or civilizing, if you will, of the American west. Discuss the arguments for and against the use of Closed Material Procedures (CMP) in national security matters - Term Paper Example Thus, courts in many cases, have to deny access of specific documents or information to individuals, from the point of view of public interest. Though such measures have been introduced with the primary objective of safeguarding public interest, the issue of CMP has become a controversial topic due to its far-reaching implication of the criminal justice system as a whole. In normal court proceedings, individuals and their legal representatives are allowed to be present and examine all the documents that are allowed as evidences in a case during the trial and such proceedings are known as open procedure. However, in cases where the examination of any documents by individuals is considered as a breach of national security, individuals are not allowed to examine the relevant document and such materials are known as â€Å"closed† materials.3 However, a government appointed lawyer, who represents the individual, or Special Advocate, will be allowed to â€Å"attend all parts ofâ₠¬  the proceedings and extended access to all the documents examined during the trial.4 This is to ensure that the government preserves a â€Å"strong and independent judiciary† to protect the rights and freedom of its citizens.5 On the other hand, the government has a primary responsibility for protecting national security to guarantee the safety and security of the citizens. Thus, it becomes significant that the government strikes a balance between the protection of national security and safeguarding the rights and freedom of individuals. The debate regarding CMPs, thus, focuses its attention on protecting the national security without injuring or compromising the concepts of the freedom of individuals and facilitating them a fair trial. One of the main arguments against CMPs is that the system of suppressing material is â€Å"inherently unfair† and that a hearing that disallows individuals from being present or examining the documents â€Å"undermines the credibil ity† of the legal system.6 The opponents of CMPs further argue that the system of allowing the prosecution, usually represented by the government, to â€Å"present its case† without extending the defence an opportunity of â€Å"public scrutiny† is against the principles of justice.7 They also contend that apart from the inherent risks associated with CMP, it considerably reduces the â€Å"degree of judicial and Ministerial scrutiny† of how the cases are tried and this can have a detrimental effect on â€Å"transparency and accountability† of justice system as well as compromise its â€Å"credibility.†8 Thus, the main argument against CMPs relies on the premise that this practice undermines the concept of fair trial to individuals as in this system they are not allowed to examine all the documents that the prosecution relies on for the purpose of proving their case.
